iRacing PC Technical Discussion Thread
For discussing computer technical issues related to running iRacing.
Will steal posts from existing threads to consolidate them here when I get home and as I find them. We can keep the PC techy stuff going in here to keep event/season/racin' threads from getting too overwhelmed.

Re: iRacing PC Technical Discussion Thread
Welp, I sure could use some help getting my lan connection to connect to iRacing. I tried just about everything I could think of or find.
Wireless, I connect just fine, but every once in a while the signal gets lost and it tells me it's resetting the network card, then it connects again just fine. That's pretty rare, but it just happened while I was racing, so I don't want to be doing that anymore.
The only reason I'm running wireless is because when I connect the ethernet cable and select the LAN, everything connects to the internet fine, and I can even test with iRacing, but as soon as I try to enter a race, tt , q or practice I get a 'could not connect to server' message.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iRacing through the LAN connection. I've turned off the wirless network card. I've gone through the settings of the network adaptor like a blind man.

I've spent a not-insignificant amount of time trying to look stuff up to help you, but I' haven't come up with much... You should definitely submit a support request to iRacing if you haven't already.
Disabling your wifi device in Device Manager is definitely a good start. When you do that, I assume you're still albe to connect to connect to the internet? Are you sure you have the latest drivers installed for Win 7, and more importantly, your ethernet card? You should figure out the model of your ethernet card and see if they have a newer driver directly from the manufacturer (from your link on the other thread, I think you have a "Killer e2200" embedded ethernet chip, in which case the driver can be found here).
Also, you might try disable the Windows Firewall for a brief period just to confirm that's not the issue. If that fixes it, then you'll need to figure out whatever ports you need to allow through for iRacing to work properly.
That's about all I got, hope you figure it out.
Seems like your router might be a bit shady if you're dropping your wifi connection periodically. I've been playing over wifi since I started and haven't had any problems.

Re: iRacing PC Technical Discussion Thread
RackAttack raises a good point, Windows firewall could be treating your LAN connection differently than your Wireless connection and preventing connectivity on the ports required by iRacing. Aside from that my only other thought is that there's an INI file somewhere in iRacing telling it to connect to game servers over a specific network adapter. Often times the settings for software do not get uninstalled when the game does, so that if you reinstall you can keep your save games and preferences.
Just a couple guesses off the top of my head. I would definitely open a ticket with the iRacing Support staff if you can (Us IT guys and our tickets...).
Edit: Additional thought... 'gaming' network cards are basically a sham... but that doesn't mean they don't try and do some spiffy stuff with network packets through their drivers. I wonder if your Killer LAN card software isn't doing something which iRacing considers sketchy and so it's dropping you for security reasons. Purely speculation on my point, but may be something to look in to if you've got some software for managing the Ethernet traffic. Looked around, haven't found references to that kind of problem, so may be I am out of my mind, but might be worth checking out.

Re: iRacing PC Technical Discussion Thread
Tried all firewalls off. Everything's up to date.
There is a Killer network program. I set it to prioritize all of the iRacing stuff. Then I turned it off.
Even if I'm connected by wifi, then I plug the cable in, but stay on the wifi, it will block me out.
Ticket submitted. Are they open Monday?

I can't see any reason why not. Should be open and available to respond, yes. I am seeing a lot of folks talking about the Unable to Connect issue, but most of those are to do with a bug that was resolved in the last update. Nothing about ethernet specific problems.
Going on an expedition through the iRacing settings folders...

Re: iRacing PC Technical Discussion Thread
I would investigate the port issue thoroughly. The game is going to use a different port than the website. You need to look at the router as the culprit. The port is closed on a direct-connect, but open on the wireless.

Re: iRacing PC Technical Discussion Thread
a very quick search yielded one particular port that needs to be open ... 32034 ... it is closed by default on windows firewall. it also needs to be forwarded further upstream. being able to connect wirelessly, and not with a cable, is pointing to the port. direct connect is disabled somewhere and you'll have to look at all devices and make sure everything is open that iracing needs, or temporarily just open everything on the router and laptop. Get it to work, and then backstep by slowly closing it down.
I also found a large range of ports that the servers may use ... 15000 --->52500 If you cant specify port ranges, then specify an IP block. In the case of IRacing 69.25.205.241/28 Make sure its UDP
Second part is from the IRacing FAQ which I'm sure you've all read.
Also, I believe you can run netscan -xxx to see what ports are /used/listening/shutdown. I'm not sure the exact input, as I'm not a windows user. A search will tell you ....

Re: iRacing PC Technical Discussion Thread
Thanks guys. I've been trying your suggestions this morning.
I was able to get the first port setup on my router. No luck there. On the way to that I set up a static IP. I also tried the DMZ, since I knew how to do that with the PS3, but still no luck.
I uninstalled the McAffee firewall program and disable Windows firewall. No luck there. I opened the windows firewall program and tried to poke around in there, but I kinda got lost.
Thanks for your help guys. I've used up my IT time for today, time to go racin.
If anyone wants to remote in and poke around, I wouldn't mind.

I can do a remote support session with you if you like. Pretty sure I have an old WebEx account lying around...

These threads cover the Linear FFB setting that was added. It make a pretty big difference, especially in the Logi wheels, from what I've read.
I set mine up last night and I was getting more detailed ffb when loaded up. I also decreased my deadzone a bit with the suggestions in those threads.

Yeah, I did some experimenting and got up to FFB strength of 25 in the Mazda MX-5. Setting my DFGT to 900 degrees was a change I made the first night, and love it. Almost perfect mirroring of in game wheel to my wheel.

Did you try the liniar mode? You have to edit the app.ini file.
